Connect kōdlo to Claude
Server URL: https://api.kodlo.ai/mcp
The server uses the Streamable HTTP transport. It authenticates with a kōdlo API key sent as Authorization: Bearer <key> (or X-API-Key: <key>).
1. Turn on external AI apps (workspace owner)
Section titled “1. Turn on external AI apps (workspace owner)”You only do this once per workspace.
- Sign in to app.kodlo.ai as the workspace owner.
- Open Settings → AI apps (MCP).
- Under External AI apps, switch access on.
External AI apps are available on paid plans. If the switch is later turned off, every key in the workspace stops working until it is turned back on. The keys are not deleted.
2. Create an API key (each member)
Section titled “2. Create an API key (each member)”- Open Settings → AI apps (MCP) and go to API keys.
- Click to create a key and give it a name you will recognise later, such as
MacBook — Claude Desktop. - Optional: set an expiry (1–3650 days). Leave it empty for a key that does not expire.
- Optional: tick read-only. A read-only key can look things up but cannot change data or start paid runs.
- Copy the key. It starts with
kdl_live_and is shown only once.
You can have up to 5 active keys. Create one key per device or app, so you can revoke one without breaking the others.
3. Add kōdlo to your Claude client
Section titled “3. Add kōdlo to your Claude client”Run this in your terminal and replace <your-key> with your key:
claude mcp add --transport http kodlo https://api.kodlo.ai/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer <your-key>"Check the connection with claude mcp list, or run /mcp inside Claude Code.
Claude Desktop connects through the mcp-remote bridge, which needs Node.js 18 or later.
-
In Claude Desktop, open Settings → Developer → Edit Config. This opens
claude_desktop_config.json. -
Add a
kodloentry undermcpServersand replace<your-key>with your key:{"mcpServers": {"kodlo": {"command": "npx","args": ["-y","mcp-remote","https://api.kodlo.ai/mcp","--header","Authorization:${KODLO_AUTH}"],"env": {"KODLO_AUTH": "Bearer <your-key>"}}}} -
Save the file and restart Claude Desktop. kōdlo shows up in the tools menu of a new chat.
The header is passed through an environment variable on purpose: some systems split arguments that contain spaces.
Any MCP client that supports Streamable HTTP and custom headers can connect:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| URL | https://api.kodlo.ai/mcp |
| Transport | Streamable HTTP |
| Header | Authorization: Bearer <your-key> |
4. Try it
Section titled “4. Try it”Start a new conversation and ask:
What can you do in my kōdlo workspace?
Claude calls kodlo_whoami first. It reports your role, your plan, how much AI budget is used and which capabilities are available. If you get an error instead, see Troubleshooting.
Revoking access
Section titled “Revoking access”- Revoke a key: Settings → AI apps (MCP) → API keys. It stops working on the next request.
- Revoke all your keys: use Sign out other devices in your account settings. Changing your password does not revoke keys.
- Workspace owners can see and revoke every member’s keys, or turn off external AI apps for the whole workspace.
